The medium-sized tree that produces Sumatran benzoin resin (Styrax benzoin) grows on Sumatra and Java.
Sumatran benzoin inspires our imagination, soothes, and opens our souls. The dark brown resin has a warmer, significantly softer, and more balsamic effect than other benzoin resins.

The wild-growing evergreen trees (tonkinensis) are native to Sumatra and Java. The fragrant benzoin resin is usually sold in its resin form and is excellent for burning as a smoke. In India, benzoin is a component of temple incense blends. In the Russian Orthodox Church, it is the main ingredient in church incense.
Benzoin or benzoin resin refers to the resin (the exuding gum) of various benzoin trees. The main species to be distinguished are "Siam Benzoin" (Styrax tonkinensis Craib.) and "Sumatra Benzoin" (Styrax benzoin Dryand), both of which belong to the Styracaceae family.
